About Altered Art Jewelry

Altered Art Jewelry is the practice of altering an object by reworking it, repurposing it or giving it a new life in redefining jewelry.

Janis is a collector. She is constantly adding to her “this-could-be-used-for something-someday” hoard as she sees artistic potential in out-of-the ordinary objects.

Shown here are necklaces, a bracelet, and earrings make from Bakelite poker chips, dice and dominoes. Vintage mother-of-pearl buttons are joined together with textured sterling silver links to form a necklace. Period photos encased in the pendant metal form are embellished with rhinestones, glitter and sealed with resin. Other photos are shown covered with microscopic slides and the sides sealed with silver plumber’s solder.
